Red Lodge Clay Center Exhibit on display in Ryniker-Morrison Gallery February 15 – March 8
BILLINGS, February 1, 2018 – Rocky Mountain College’s Ryniker-Morrison Gallery will host the Red Lodge Clay Center exhibit in Tech Hall on the RMC campus from February 15 through March 8, 2018. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The opening reception will honor four long-term Artists in Residence at the Red Lodge Clay Center, including Allison Cochran, Matt Fiske, Crista Ames, and Kelsey Bowen.
Allison Cochran grew up in a small suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. She studied at Ohio University and traveled to Germany, Denmark, and Montana to advance her study of clay. “I am using ceramics as a way to question the contemporary standards our culture has set through the influence of the media. I find we are directly affected by the images that surround us on a daily basis.”
Matt Fiske was raised in southern Indiana. He received his BFA in Ceramics and Art History in 2007 from Indiana University and went on to complete his MFA from Utah State University. He continues his study of ceramics in China and South Korea. "My work explores the intersection of ceramics, chemistry, and geology.”
Crista Ames received her BFA in Ceramics with a minor in Art History and Disability Studies from Washington State University, and her MFA from the University of Montana. An artist who works primarily in ceramics and textiles, Ames has been resident artist in France, Denmark, the Archie Bray Foundation, and the Clay Studio.
Kelsey Bowen spent her childhood in the rural California foothills, gaining inspiration from animals and nature. She is a graduate of the California College of Arts Ceramic Program. “My tactile relationship with clay is my process of release and understanding,” Bowen says.
The Red Lodge Clay Center is dedicated to supporting artists, the creative process, and to providing a space for professionally minded ceramic artists to create new work. The Red Lodge Clay Center hosts visiting artist workshops, lectures, demonstrations, gallery exhibitions, and educational programming to share the importance of art in everyday life.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends and school holidays.
