RMC Ryniker-Morrison Gallery to host Tim Holmes exhibit “Art & Transformation” August 23 – September 20

BILLINGS, August 20, 2018 – Rocky Mountain College’s Ryniker-Morrison Gallery will host the exhibit “Art & Transformation” by artist Tim Holmes in Tech Hall on the RMC campus from August 23 through September 20, 2018. The opening reception will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on August 23 and will include a gallery lecture by the featured artist at 5:30 p.m.

Tim Holmes is the first American artist to be invited to a solo exhibition at the Hermitage, the world's largest art museum, in St. Petersburg, Russia. Holmes notes that his work “has gained notice among some of the world's peacemakers, from the Chinese dissident students of Tiananmen Square to the Physicians for Social Responsibility.”

Holmes’ work has been privately collected by Archbishop Desmond Tutu - Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Jonas Salk - Polio vaccine developer, Sen. Mike Mansfield, President Jimmy Carter - Nobel Peace Prize winner, Coretta Scott King, Dr. Benjamin Spock - “The Baby Doctor,” and Czech President and social transformer Václav Havel.

In his Artist Statement, Holmes notes the following personal thoughts regarding himself and his passion for art: “Though most well-known for sculpture, he has worked in a variety of other media from museum installation to film to foster a rich and imaginative future. His attention has steadily drifted from making objects toward creating stories of transformation, leaving him tinkering with cultural elements that can hardly be called ‘art.’ He's keenly interested in fostering creative approaches to contemporary problems, particularly among growing social challenges of living together in a rapidly shrinking world.”

Rocky Mountain College is honored to showcase Holmes’ work. The opening reception is free and open to the public. The Ryniker-Morrison Gallery hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
