RMC to Host Women’s Self-Defense and Networking Event

BILLINGS, January 4, 2017 – Rocky Mountain College’s student-run organization, Young Women in Business (YWiB) will be hosting a women’s self-defense and networking event at 7:00 p.m. on January 19, 2017, in the Fortin Education Center on the RMC Campus. The event will be co-sponsored by Stand Up RMC and RMC Campus Safety, with the support GREAT Self Defense and the Ramsey Keller Memorial.

“I want this to be a bonding experience for the women on the Rocky Mountain College campus, while also serving as an opportunity for outreach to the community,” said YWiB president Shadya Jarecke (class of 2017). “This event is as much of a networking event for our students, who will soon be entering the local workforce, as it is an ever-important opportunity to empower women.”

The event will consist of several programs, including an introduction by Ms. Jarecke and Marcell Bruski (RMC class of 2017), a presentation on running a nonprofit by Kori Keller of the Ramsey Keller Memorial, a self defense workshop led by Carla Verbsky and Dennis Forleo of GREAT Self Defense, and a session for refreshments and networking.

"GREAT Self Defense is the platform I created so that I can share knowledge and life experiences with others, honestly and openly,” Verbsky said. “Through self defense, I teach character skills such as integrity, self control, respect, humility, compassion, discipline, and perseverance."
