Red Lodge Clay Center Exhibit on display at Ryniker-Morrison Gallery February 9 – March 2, 2017

BILLINGS, January 26, 2017 – Rocky Mountain College’s Ryniker-Morrison Gallery will host the Red Lodge Clay Center exhibit in Tech Hall on the RMC campus from February 9 through March 2, 2017. An opening reception honoring the Center’s long-term residents will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The exhibit is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

The mission statement of the Red Lodge Clay Center reads, “It is our mission to support artists, the creative process and to provide a place for professionally-minded ceramic artists to create new work. Red Lodge Clay Center will host Visiting Artist workshops, lectures, demonstrations, gallery exhibitions, and educational programming to share with our resident artists and the general public the importance of art in our everyday lives.”

The 2016-2017 long-term residents at the Red Lodge Clay Center include Allison Cochran, Matt Fiske, Raven Halfmoon, Joyce St. Clair Voltz, and Lars Voltz.

Allison Cochran studied clay at Ohio University. As an undergraduate, she traveled to Germany where she studied at the Burg Giebeichenstein School of Art and Design. She has been a resident at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemet, Hungary, and was also part of the first Advanced Student Project Network at the Red Lodge Clay Center.

Matt Fiske earned his BFA in Ceramics and Art History from Indiana University. He spent time studying Chinese porcelain in China, worked in a clay studio in Seoul, South Korea, and was a resident at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. In 2016, he received his MFA in Ceramics from Utah State University.

Raven Halfmoon earned a BA in Ceramics, Painting, and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2014. She recently finished a year-long post BA program at the University of Oklahoma. She has had exhibitions of her work in Arkansas, Kansas, Texas, and Montana.

Joyce St. Clair Voltz received her BA in Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies and a BFA in Ceramics from University of North Texas in 2011. She graduated with her MFA from Wichita State where she was able to study contemporary art in Japan, Australia, Cuba, Mexico, and New Zealand. 

Lars Voltz received his BS in Art Education from Bemidji State University in 2009. He earned his MFA from Wichita State University in 2014 where programs allowed him to travel and study in Japan, Cuba, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. In 2015, he traveled to Hangzhou, China, to build wood kilns for the China Academy of Arts. 

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on weekends and school holidays. For more information, contact Sally McIntosh at sally.mcintosh@rocky.edu.
